The iPhone Rules

Yesterday, I recieved an upgraded work phone as I moved from a Samsung PDA to a new iPhone 3G with 32 gigs of memory. I fell in love with my iPod when I finally bought one last year, mostly because of how unlike Microsoft the device was — providing actual plug and play functionality. It’s easy to understand why mac users always seem so sure that their computers are superior machines.

Now to the iPhone. Although still new to me, I am amazed at the ease of use of this device. Manuvering around the keyboard is a snap, and I find that I make very few errors in key selection along the way — especially when the iPhone is rotated to provide a view of larger keys. Downloading new apps is as easy as making a selection from the app store. I’ve already downloaded several, including the WordPress app on which I am drafting this Blog post on my iPhone.

The iPhone syncs with iTunes just like the iPod, so there were no problems with the set-up. All of my email account, and my contacts and calendar from Outlook were copied to the iPhone. Email passwords had to be entered within the iPhone after the sync, but that was basically the only manual intervention required during the set-up process.

It took a while to sync eight movies (yes, I know that I said it was a work phone) but once the sync was completed I was awed by the clarity of the video. Also, YouTube videos stream effortlessly.

I’ve read recently where many iPhone users are dissatisfied with the bandwidth provided by AT&T, particularly in densely populated areas. I have not experienced that frustration yet, and I hope that the situation is addressed in short order, although I know better. Future possible frustrations aside, all that’s left to say is that I surely didn’t know what I was missing.

Some folks cringe when he gets “all political” on them, but he does it anyway when he's in that kind of mood. Sometimes, he writes something nice about someone, but you shouldn't get used to that.
